This page explains the main rules for the Hornbeck DP CPD Program, including the 1st Assessment, 2nd Assessment, scores, certificate issue, assessment attempts, and support.

What is the DP CPD Program?
The DP CPD Program supports ongoing professional development for Dynamic Positioning personnel.
The program includes:
1. 1st Assessment
2. Learning materials
3. 2nd Assessment
4. Certificate review and issue
The purpose is to identify current knowledge, direct candidates to relevant study material, and confirm completion of the CPD process.
1ST ASSESSMENT FAQ
What is the 1st Assessment?
The 1st Assessment is the candidate’s first assessment attempt.
It is used to establish the candidate’s starting point and identify any subject areas where further study may be useful.
The first assessment attempt is automatically recorded as the 1st Assessment unless it is clearly non-compliant. This includes deliberately incomplete or non-serious attempts, such as entering random answers, leaving most questions unanswered, or otherwise using the 1st Assessment in a way that does not reflect a genuine attempt.
Is there a minimum score required for the 1st Assessment?
No. There is no minimum score required for the 1st Assessment.
The 1st Assessment is used to show the candidate’s starting level and guide further study. Candidates should still complete it properly, as the result is used when reviewing progress in the 2nd Assessment.
Attempts that are clearly non-compliant, such as deliberately incomplete or non-serious attempts, entering random answers, leaving most questions unanswered, or otherwise using the 1st Assessment in a way that does not reflect a genuine attempt, will be disregarded.
What happens after the 1st Assessment?
After completing the 1st Assessment, candidates should review their results and study the linked DP CPD learning materials.
The learning materials are designed to help candidates focus on the subject areas where further review may be needed before taking the 2nd Assessment.
2ND ASSESSMENT FAQ
What is the 2nd Assessment?
The 2nd Assessment is taken after the 1st Assessment and study period.
It is used to confirm that the candidate has reviewed the learning materials and completed the required CPD process.
Candidates have 4 attempts available within the 2nd Assessment.
Do I have to improve between the 1st and 2nd Assessments?
In most cases, the 2nd Assessment should show progress compared with the 1st Assessment.
The purpose of the 2nd Assessment is to show that the candidate has reviewed their results, studied the learning materials, and improved their understanding where needed.
For example:
Example 1
A candidate scores 52% in the 1st Assessment and 68% in the 2nd Assessment.
This shows improvement and meets the Keelson certificate score requirement. The candidate will be asked to retake until they meet the Hornbeck 75% minimum.
Example 2
A candidate scores 60% in the 1st Assessment and 64% in the 2nd Assessment.
This shows improvement, but does not meet the 65% certificate score requirement or the Hornbeck 75% minimum. The candidate should retake the 2nd Assessment.
Example 3
A candidate scores 70% in the 1st Assessment and 66% in the 2nd Assessment.
Although the 2nd Assessment score is above the Keelson certificate minimum of 65%, it is lower than the 1st Assessment score. The candidate must retake the 2nd Assessment and score over 70% to show improvement.
Example 4
A candidate scores 88% in the 1st Assessment and 86% in the 2nd Assessment.
Because the 1st Assessment score was already very high, the lack of improvement may be reviewed sensibly. The candidate meets the certificate requirements if the full process has been completed properly.
Candidates are still expected to review their results, study the learning materials, and complete the 2nd Assessment properly. A high 1st Assessment score does not replace the requirement to complete the 2nd Assessment.
What if my 1st Assessment score is already high?
High 1st Assessment scores are reviewed sensibly.
If a candidate already scores highly in the 1st Assessment, they will not be penalized simply because there is little room for improvement in the 2nd Assessment.
However, the candidate must still complete the 2nd Assessment. A high 1st Assessment score does not replace the requirement to complete the full CPD process.
How long must I wait between assessment attempts?
Candidates must leave 48 hours between assessment attempts.
This allows time to review results, study the learning materials, and prepare properly before retaking.
Is the 48-hour wait ever waived?
Yes. If a candidate is within 2 days of their program deadline, the 48-hour wait may be waived so they have the opportunity to complete the program before expiry.
How many attempts do I get?
Candidates have 4 attempts available within the 2nd Assessment.
Candidates should not use attempts immediately one after another. They should review their previous result and study the relevant learning material before retaking.
Do not use remaining attempts if you have met the required standards.
Can I take the 2nd Assessment without studying the learning materials?
Candidates can access the assessments, but they are strongly advised to review the learning materials before attempting the 2nd Assessment.
The 2nd Assessment is intended to show that the candidate has reviewed the relevant material and completed the required CPD process.
Are the questions the same each time?
No. Assessment attempts may contain different questions from the same subject areas.
Candidates should study the learning material rather than trying to memorize individual questions.
SCORES AND CERTIFICATE FAQ
What score do I need to receive a certificate?
For certificate issue, the standard Keelson requirement is demonstrated improvement and 65% or above. Hornbeck also applies a company minimum target of 75%.
What happens if I score 65% or above but below 75%?
If a candidate scores 65% or above and has demonstrated improvement, they will meet the Keelson certificate issue requirement. However, if the score is below Hornbeck’s company minimum of 75%, the candidate will be asked to retake the 2nd Assessment until they meet the Hornbeck requirement. This means a candidate may receive their certificate if they meet the certificate issue rules but still be advised that Hornbeck expects them to continue until they achieve 75% or above. This will be explained in the certificate issue email.
What if I do not meet the required score?
Candidates who do not meet the required score after using all available attempts will be contacted regarding next steps.
How long does it take to receive my certificate?
Certificates are not issued instantly by the Cirrus platform. Once the candidate has completed the required assessment steps and met the certificate requirements, the result is reviewed and the certificate is issued by Keelson. Candidates should normally allow up to 2 working days for certificate processing after successful completion.
I completed the assessment but have not received my certificate. What should I do?
Candidates should contact Keelson if they have completed the required assessment and have not received their certificate after the normal processing period.
Reminders and Technical Help
What if I recently completed an assessment but received a reminder email?
If a candidate has recently logged in and completed the assessment, they can disregard the reminder.
If they have completed the required assessment and have not received their certificate, they should contact Keelson so the result can be checked.
What if I have a technical issue during the assessment?
Candidates should contact Keelson as soon as possible if they experience a technical issue that affects their ability to complete the assessment.
Where there is clear evidence of a technical problem, the attempt may be reviewed.
