Accredited provider
Keelson was the first Nautical Institute-accredited DP CPD provider and has been recognized by the NI for CPD since 2019. The program is aligned with IMCA M117 and MTRS PDPP 2.
Learning materials available for the full cycle
A free dynamic positioning app and a dedicated DP primer are provided and remain available throughout the full five-year CPD cycle.
Fully online delivery
The program is fully online, with no need to travel or attend classroom courses.
Subject matter oversight
Keelson’s DP subject matter experts have recent seagoing DP experience and are actively involved in FMEA work and DP trials.
Online assessment and feedback
The program begins with a baseline assessment. Each participant then receives a detailed personal report to guide self-study, supported by the DP app and DP primer. A final assessment measures improvement.
Operational relevance
Questions are based on real DP vessel operations and published industry guidance. The DP primer also includes exercises to help apply learning onboard.
Certificate of completion
Keelson issues annual certificates to individual DP practitioners, supporting the five-year DP CPD cycle for NI certificate revalidation.

Differentiated by role and rank
The program is aligned with IMCA M117 role pathways, so candidates are assessed according to their onboard role and rank. A Master or OIM will receive different and more demanding questions than a DPO or senior watchkeeping engineer.
Practical and efficient
The program is designed to make CPD effective and time-efficient. A baseline assessment identifies gaps, and tailored reports direct each candidate to the areas that need review, avoiding unnecessary repetition. The program is fully online and does not require travel ashore.
